Eliminating the Language Barrier

Interpreter is an iOS app created as part of the Vonage Garage innovation program. In the international business world, seamless communication is of top priority. Interpreter is meant to bridge between people who speak different languages, helping them do what they do best, without worrying about being misinterpreted or misunderstood. Imagine if anyone, anywhere, could speak naturally into one side of a phone call, and any person on the other side could understand them.

Once the user chooses his native language and that of the party on the other side of the call, the Vonage Interpreter listens to each side, waiting for a break in the speech (the end of a sentence, or paragraph, for example). Interpreter will then repeat the paragraph in translation.

The Challenge

While the technology behind Interpreter was complex, the UI and user experience had to be as clean as possible, as it was to be used by people of different cultures and had to clearly serve its purpose without sidetracking with UI elements.

After the initial set up of adding credit and selecting the source language, the user will be able to initiate a call or receive calls, speaking directly to the microphone and the other side would hear the translation.
